Gene Entries Updated and Enhanced

Posted December 9, 2024

There are quite a number of genes that are included in MedAbbrev. We’ve worked on enhancing these entries so that they are displayed in a manner that is consistent and easy to identify. Not every gene in the official gene website is included, but we’ve included those that have been commonly searched.

We think you'll appreciate the new icon which helps you quickly identify the terms which are genes versus those that are not (as shown in the following screenshot):

Another helpful feature is the direct link to the applicable gene website page. Just click on the words “gene website” and go directly to the specific gene. Suppose you do a search on “DAP3”, you’ll see the following:

medical acronym gene dap

Notice that you can also see other known terms/aliases (e.g., mS29) below the main term. Now click on the words “gene website” and another window opens to the gene website page as shown below:

We hope you find this new feature useful. Be sure to let us know if you have any other ideas to enhance MedAbbrev that will help make your job easier and help you do it better and faster.
