MedAbbrev Improves Search Results with Exact vs Partial Match

Posted February 18, 2025

We are always looking for ways to improve MedAbbrev; to make it easier for you to use and provide you with better results. One thing mentioned by our customers is the way search results are displayed. You asked and we have the solution!

The newly updated MedAbbrev search will now display results that are a 100% match to what is in the search window under the heading “Exact Matches”. Simply type in the abbreviation or descriptions for which you are searching and now you can easily see (at the top of the list), those that are exact matches. Below that list, under the heading “Partial Matches” are shown those that partially match up to the search criteria.

The following shows an example of a search on AAO:

As you can see, AAO2 shows up in the partial match listing. This should make it easier to find what you are looking for. Keep in mind that there may be terms that will not have any exact matches in either the term or description so there will not be anything listed under “Exact Matches” in that situation.
